Mae Copp

Mae Copp (Margaret Mae), 89 of Minonk, passed away at 4:55 PM on Friday January 27, 2017 at Heritage Health in Minonk.
Mae was a lifelong resident of Minonk. She was the daughter of Inez and Herman DeFries, born on May 30, 1927 in a little house on Chestnut Street.
She worked at the Chocolate Shoppe, the Minonk News Dispatch and for the Havener Agency. She enjoyed being a “den mother” to Cub Scouts, volunteering at the Food Pantry and was Township Trustee for many years.
Mae was a die hard fan of the Chicago Cubs. She played and taught bridge and loved any game of cards. She would be ready to play a game of Scrabble morning, noon or night.. She bowled in a league for many years, with 5 kids at home she would say she was going bowling for the “peace and quiet!”
Then of course, the countless pies she made from scratch, any kind, any time, always the best.
She is survived by daughters, Joan Copp of Peoria and Kay (Erik Winterland) Marshall and Margaret (Roger Rapp) Copp both of Normal; sons, Craig (Joan) Copp and Pat (Sue Park) Copp both of Minonk; granddaughters, Stacy, Mandy and Madalyn; grandson, Nicholas; and great grandsons, Dustin and Vincent.
She was “Auntie Mae” to her sister Lois (Bill) Havener’s six children, their children and their children.
An urn was hand crafted by her great nephew, Matt Armstrong, made from Mae’s dining room table where great times were had and many fond memories were made.
Calvert – Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk is assisting the family with arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial of ashes will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Minonk. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mae’s name to Minonk Community Bank for a tree to be planted in honor of Mae’s life.
We will miss you “Mom”, Rest in peace Putzi!
