Edmund D. Harston, 80, of Pontiac, passed away at 8:49am, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at his home in Pontiac.
All services will be private. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
He was born August 31, 1937 in Witt, Illinois, the son of Herbert and Leah (Dobson) Harston. He married Barbara Stamps on May 7, 1965 in Pontiac. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2017.
He was educated in Witt schools, then joined the Army. He served from 1955-1958, completing basic training with the 13th Infantry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colorado and spending part of his service on Baffin Island, Canada. After his discharge from the Army he worked at Allis-Chalmers in Springfield, then moved to Pontiac to pursue a career at the Pontiac Correctional Center. He worked as a guard and a food supervisor and retired after 28 years of service.
Ed enjoyed restoring and showing vintage cars, fishing, hunting, and visiting with friends.
He is survived by three children, Peggy (Dale) Graham of Harper Woods, Michigan, Brian (Mary) Harston of Midland, Michigan, Chris (Philene) Harston of Plainfield; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Mikayla, Kevin, Maggie, Madison, Lauren and Jason; one brother, Billy of Creve Coeur.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Emery, Jimmy, Herbie, Harry “Abe”, John Charles “Chuck”; five sisters, Emily Mayfield, Rosie Cargle, Miriam Harston Craig, Anna Harston, and Hilda Harston.
