Charles K. Engel

Charles K. Engel, 91, of Hudson, IL passed away at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Hertiage Health, El Paso, IL with his wife by his side.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso, IL with Rev. Ralph Wingate officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Hinthorn Cemetery, Lake Bloomington. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the memorial home. Memorials may be made to the Hudson Fire Department.
Charles was born May 1, 1926 in Chenoa, IL the son of Jacob and Katharina Carstens Engel. He married Norma Farrell in 1945 in Bloomington. She died September 21, 1983. He then married Juanita Kessinger on July 28, 1984 in Lexington they have been married for 33 years. She survives along with Three sons Allen Engel of El Paso, Tom (Tyke) Engel of Hudson, and Galen Engel of Normal; two step children Ron (Debra) Kessinger of Wellington, CO and Lanette (Al) Wallace of Bloomington; one brother John (Marlene) Engel of Kappa; two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and one step great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one step son, and one step grandson.
Charles attended Lexington Community Church. He farmed in rural Hudson for more than 40 years. After retiring he drove a school bus for unit 5 for 14 years. Charles was a Sargent in the Army Air Corps from November 2, 1945 to January 22, 1947. He spent a year in occupied Japan as a photographer. He was a volunteer with the Hudson Fire Department for 40 years starting as a firefighter in 1972 and retired as president of the board of trustees in 2012. Charles was an avid woodworker for as long as he was able, making quilting frames and other items for quilters. He enjoyed reading, watching TV, and watching birds.
