Rita Foster Jostes, 87 of Monticello, IL formerly of Argenta, IL passed away 3:48 A.M. November 21, 2017 at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL.
Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with Rev. Andrew Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow at Harristown Cemetery, Harristown, IL. Visitation will be 10 – 11 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Rita was born April 30, 1930, in Normal, IL, the daughter of James and Opal Crowe Foster. She was raised in Niantic, IL in a loving home by her Aunt Erma and Uncle Bryan Spencer. She married Dick E. Jostes on December 11, 1949 in Niantic, IL. He preceded her in death on September 4, 2014, having been married for 65 wonderful years.
Survivors include herson, Dave (Cheri) Jostes of Argenta, IL; a daughter, Deborah (John) Crow of Vinton, IA; five granddaughters: Laura (Jaiman) Fisher of Orlando, FL; Kristin (Scott) Craig of Clinton, IN; Abby (Aaron) Siek of Blairstown, IA; Kari Jostes of Shelbyville, KY; and Danielle (Doug) Spalding of Shelbyville, KY; and six great-grandchildren: Adelaide and Everett Fisher, Owen Siek and Amelia, Lily and Kate Craig.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, an infant son, Rodney, 3 brothers and two sisters. She was a member of Forsyth United Methodist Church.
Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and loved to entertain. She was well-known for her delicious meals, cookies and cakes, and her ability to put together a meal quickly for the unexpected guests her late husband would often bring home. Although she will be missed greatly , the family takes great comfort in knowing that Rita has left this earthly place to be with her beloved husband and family members she lost at too young of an age.

Aunt Rita (sister of my mother) was a wonderful and loving person. She was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure knowing her. She was a fantastic cook and a wonderful host. She and her husband Uncle Dick raised two wonderful children, Debbie & David who gave them beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The entire family was classy and loved by all who new them. As a youngster I loved them and they always treated me as if I was part of the family. My wife Magdalini was born, raised & educated in Greece and became a U.S. citizen in 1990. She fell in love with Uncle Dick & Aunt Rita immediately who treated her as family. Magda’s parents visited us from Greece & we spent a day/evening with Uncle Dick & Aunt Rita who’s wonderful hospitality was fantastic. When they went back to Greece they told their friends and family that the highlight of their visit was the visit with Aunt Rita & Uncle Dick. I could write a book about this wonderful family.

During the years I have enjoyed the friendship of Dick and Rita Jostes. Rita was such a special person and loved to entertain and do things for others. She always gave over and above and made you feel welcome in her presence. At the mention their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren both she and her deceased husband, Dick, you could see a sparkle in their eyes and their pride. She was a wonderful cook, friend and cared deeply for others. Although in her later years, her health did not allow her to do as she would have wished, I have very fond memories and respect for the joy I received in having known her.

It has been a great pleasure to have known Rita Jostes and her deceased husband, Dick. Through the years their friendship has been a treasure to me and my family. Rita was a very “classy” woman and always smiling and doing for others. She was an excellent cook, and always made you feel welcome. Both she and her husband were so proud of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who always brought a sparkle and smile when they were mentioned. They have both left many happy memories and wonderful legacies.
