Rita Foster Jostes, 87 of Monticello, IL formerly of Argenta, IL passed away 3:48 A.M. November 21, 2017 at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL.

Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with Rev. Andrew Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow at Harristown Cemetery, Harristown, IL. Visitation will be 10 – 11 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Rita was born April 30, 1930, in Normal, IL, the daughter of James and Opal Crowe Foster. She was raised in Niantic, IL in a loving home by her Aunt Erma and Uncle Bryan Spencer. She married Dick E. Jostes on December 11, 1949 in Niantic, IL. He preceded her in death on September 4, 2014, having been married for 65 wonderful years.

Survivors include herson, Dave (Cheri) Jostes of Argenta, IL; a daughter, Deborah (John) Crow of Vinton, IA; five granddaughters: Laura (Jaiman) Fisher of Orlando, FL; Kristin (Scott) Craig of Clinton, IN; Abby (Aaron) Siek of Blairstown, IA; Kari Jostes of Shelbyville, KY; and Danielle (Doug) Spalding of Shelbyville, KY; and six great-grandchildren: Adelaide and Everett Fisher, Owen Siek and Amelia, Lily and Kate Craig.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, an infant son, Rodney, 3 brothers and two sisters. She was a member of Forsyth United Methodist Church.

Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and loved to entertain. She was well-known for her delicious meals, cookies and cakes, and her ability to put together a meal quickly for the unexpected guests her late husband would often bring home. Although she will be missed greatly , the family takes great comfort  in knowing that Rita has left this earthly place to be with her beloved husband and family members she lost at too young of an age.

Steven Mac Cook

Steven Mac Cook 66 of Decatur, Illinois passed away 7:37 PM October 28, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, Illinois.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2 – 4 P.M. Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Argenta Community Building.  The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with cremation rites.

Steven was born June 28, 1951 in Decatur, IL the son of Bob and Norma (LeHew) Cook.

Survivors include his father and step-mother: Bob and June Cook, Loxely, AL; sister and brother-in-law: Tara and John Fornear, Argenta, IL; nephew and nieces: Audra Heckwine, Adam Fornear, Erin Fornear and Morgan Fornear.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Steven was a 1969 graduate of Argenta-Oreana High School.

William C. “Bill” Millhorn, Jr.

William C. “Bill” Millhorn, Jr., of Argenta, IL passed away 11:30 A.M. September 13, 2017 at his home in Argenta, IL.

Services will be 11 A.M. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with Pastor Bob Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL with military honors. Visitation will be 10 – 11 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project.

Bill was born March 7, 1933 in Argenta, IL the son of William C. and Dottie L. (Harrington) Millhorn, Sr. He married Erma M. Arnold March 31, 1957 in Decatur, IL; she passed away October 27, 2010.

Survivors include one sister and a nephew.

Bill was a1952 graduate from the Argenta Community High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served as Friends Creek Auditor from 1961 to 1969 and through the years worked as a bookkeeper for a local grain company. He had also worked at Revere Copper & Brass Inc., the Laborer’s Local #362 in Bloomington, IL and one of ADM’s sub-contractors.

He enjoyed history, especially the civil war period, the Illinois National Guard history and the Illinois Native American history. At present, he was serving as volunteer historian for the 66th Brigade, Illinois Army National Guard with Commission of Brigadier General in the Illinois State Militia. On several occasions, Bill and his wife had displayed an extensive military insignia and patch collection in an effort to promote the US Armed Forces.

Larry “Sam” Simonton

Larry “Sam” Simonton, 80 of Cerro Gordo, IL passed away 12:15 A.M. September 12, 2017 at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello, IL.

The family greatly appreciates the love and concern of Larry’s many friends. However, due to family health concerns we are unable to receive visitors at this time. A private service is planned at East Frantz Cemetery in rural Cerro Gordo with Dennis McClure officiating. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with arrangements.

Larry was born February 4, 1937 in Decatur, IL the son of Roy “Jack” and Anna (Wells) Simonton of rural Cerro Gordo. He married Janice Baker on February 17, 1957 in Cerro Gordo Methodist Church and the two always considered themselves a team in all they did throughout their 60 years of marriage.

Larry is survived by his wife, Janice of Cerro Gordo; daughter, Andrea Simonton-Gregg of Milmine; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Taylor of Monticello; two grandsons, Jared (Lori) Gregg and their daughter, Callie; and Jeff (Brianna) Gregg and their daughter, Lena, all of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kyle; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Donald Esker of St. Louis, MO; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Midge Baker of Indianapolis, IN; and a brother-in-law, Robert Taylor of Bement, IL.

Larry enjoyed his life’s work as a farmer in the Piatt County area and at the time of his retirement from farming had come close to achieving his goal of raising 60 crops. In the 1950’s, he became interested in raising and training Standardbred Harness racehorses and for many years successfully raced at County and State fair tracks as well as racecourses in the Chicago area. He remained an avid fan of the sport and especially enjoyed watching the new developing champions with their amazing speed and stamina. He made many friendships over the years that have continued to be treasures to him. He especially looked forward to afternoons playing 42 with his buddies.

Beverly J. Wisehart

Beverly J. Wisehart, 70 of Deltona, Florida passed away September 12, 2017 in Orange City, FL.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, October 9, 2017 at Croninger Cemetery, Cisco, IL with Rev. Larry Leischner officiating. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with arrangements.

Beverly was born January 18, 1947 in Hannibal, MO the daughter of Charles and Virginia (Brocksmith)
Wisehart.

Survivors include her sons: Jerry (Karen) Jennings, Argenta, IL and Shawn Wilson, Deltona, FL; grandchildren: Cody Wilson; Kaitlyn Jennings; and Sydney Jennings; brother, Bobby L. Wisehart,
Cisco, IL; sister, Iris M. (Chuck) Guyot, Bement, IL;

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Nancy Wisehart; and long-time companion, Donald E. Helgested.

Beverly enjoyed cooking and sewing.

Carl F. Jennings

Carl F. Jennings 73 of Cisco, IL passed away 7:25 AM August 30, 2017 at his family residence,
Cisco, IL.

Graveside services will be 10 A.M. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Croninger Cemetery, Cisco, IL with Rev. Larry Leischner officiating. There will be no visitation. Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.

Carl was born June 12, 1944 in DeLand, IL the son of Floyd and Emma (Gains) Jennings. He married Janet Kay Grunden November 22, 1972 in Cisco, IL; she passed away January 2, 2016.

Survivors include his son: Jerry (Karen) Jennings, Argenta, IL; daughter: Carla (Jason Frazee) Jennings, Bement, IL; 4 grandchildren: Kaitlyn & Sydney Jennings, Bradley & Sammy Jo Frazee; siblings: Betty Zumwalt, Farmer City, IL, Carolyn Burton, Nancy, KY and Janice Burton, DeLand, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Carl worked at General Cable in Monticello, IL for 37 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and watching wildlife.

Lila Lee Andrews

Lila Lee Andrews 86 of Clinton, Illinois moved to her new eternal residence of “Streets of Gold” in the Kingdom of God, where Jesus reigns, 4:30 PM June 7, 2017.

Services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Lane Christian Church, Lane, IL with Jim Kilson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 10 – 11 A.M. Tuesday at the Church. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

Lila was born June 16, 1930 in Clinton, IL the daughter of John D. and Ella (Campbell) Johnson. After graduating from Clinton High School she married Donald Andrews June 10, 1949 in Clinton, IL.

Survivors include her 5 children: David (Darlene) Andrews, Jacksonville, FL, Linda (Mark) Walston, Clinton, IL, Terry (Mallon) Wood, Minier, IL, Julie (John) Meeks, Bradenton, FL, and Janet (John) McKay, Ocala, FL; sister: Esther Covey, Clinton, IL; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and 2 more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, 7 sisters, 1 granddaughter and1 great granddaughter.

Lila loved her family and was an active member of the Lane Christian Church until she moved to Liberty Village in July 2014.

She as a diehard Cub fan and was so thrilled to see them win the World Series. We know she will be watching them win big this year, Go Cubs! As an amateur genealogist, she kept track of all the births and deaths in her large family. She loved to send cards to her family and friends, and enjoyed word search puzzles. Above all, she was a sweet, kind hearted lady who loved her family and gracefully dealt with what life handed her.

Michael David McMahon

Michael David McMahon, 62 of Decatur, IL passed away 4:59 P.M. March 31, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the New Vision Church (formerly known as the Ice House), 550 N. Van Dyke St., Decatur, IL with Pastor Dow Moses officiating. Graveside services will be 1 P.M.

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Croninger Cemetery, Cisco, IL, 2 ½ miles south of Cisco, IL on State Route 32, with military honors.

Mike was born December 29, 1954 in Springfield, MO the son of David McMahon, Mt. Zion, IL and the late Wanda June (Young) McMahon, Decatur, IL. He married Vicky Fedie June 29, 2002.

Survivors include his wife: Vicky McMahon, Decatur, IL; father and step-mother: David and Sue McMahon, Mt. Zion, IL; step-children: Stephanie (Aaron) Cohen, Decatur, IL and Nathan (Cierra) Ray, Ft. Myers, FL; brothers: Tim McMahon and Steve McMahon both of Argenta, IL; Pat McMahon, Lutz, FL; step-brother: Pat (Sheila) Drum, Mt. Zion, IL; step-sister: Cathy (Mike) Having, Mt. Zion, IL; brothers-in-law: Denny (Connie) Fedie, Lovington, IL, Gary (Kim) Fedie, Maroa, IL, Scott (Angie) Fedie, Guyton, GA; sister-in-law: Donna (Dennis) Hockaday, Lincoln, IL. Many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, along with close friends Bobby, John, Ernie and special dog: Lil Bit also survive.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Wanda June McMahon; still born sons: Michael David, Jr. and Christopher Dominique; grandparents, sister: Casandra Ann Gosset and step-brother: Greg Drum.

Mike was a member of the 1973 Graduating Class at Argenta-Oreana High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon being honorably discharged he returned home and became a self-employed master carpenter. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in the yard with many different kinds of flowers and plants.

Mike loved his family and friends, and would do anything for them. He will be deeply missed by all.

A. Richard Nelson

A. Richard Nelson 76 of Argenta, IL passed away 3:07 PM March 27, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Graveside services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL with Pastor Eric Trickey officiating. There will be no visitation, Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Richard was born June 13, 1940 in Decatur, IL the son of Nels and Rowena (Hester) Nelson. He married Mary F. Nelson June 9, 1980 in Decatur, IL She passed away September 8, 2012.

Survivors include his brother: Donald Nelson, Oreana, IL; sisters: Renee (Ron) Conour, Decatur, IL and Karen (Kenny) Oathout, Kankakee, IL. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews also survive.

Richard worked for the Sprinkler Fitters Union Local #669 in Salem, IL. He was an avid Dale Earnhart NASCAR Fan.

Elaine White

Elaine White, 90, of Argenta, IL passed away 9:03 PM, March 20, 2017 at her residence, Argenta, IL.

Services will be 10 AM, Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with Rev. Dr. William Keagle and Pastor Kate Pyle officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Visitation will be 6 – 8 PM, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the funeral home. The family requests casual attire.

Elaine was born May 15, 1926 in Fargo, North Dakota, the daughter of Louis Raymond and Verna (Fischer) Barclay and later Step-Daughter to Louise (Reed) Barclay. She married Noel Dean White January 3, 1945 in Argenta, Il. He passed away January 16, 2004.

Survivors include her children, Lynn (Linda) White, Argenta, Il.; Larry (Carol) White, Decatur, Il.; Bruce (Linda) White, Argenta, Il.; Anita “Nikki” Foertsch, Decatur, Il.; Karen (Jerry) Jennings, Argenta, Il.; 10 Grandchildren, Jason White; Kirby Gholson; Cory (Hannah) White; Jenny (Terry) Collins; Scott White; Melissa (Jason) Hesse; Colin Gholson; Amy (Charlie) Naills; Shannon White; Shawna (Jarred) Askren; 4 Step-Grandchildren, Rodney Young; David Black; Kaitlyn Jennings and Sydney Jennings; 16 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Step-Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents and Step-Mother.

Elaine was a very active member of the Argenta Presbyterian Church. She had taught cake decorating classes. She enjoyed dancing, water coloring and most of all spending time with her family.
