Judith Ann McNamara

Judith Ann McNamara, 61, of Minonk, passed away Wednesday November 15, 2017, 9:20 pm at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Celebration of Judy’s life will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday November 19, 2017 at the Fieldcrest High School Gymnasium, Minonk. A time for sharing will be held at 7:00 pm. All are invited to share.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Minonk. Fr. Patrick Greenough will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Judy McNamara Memorial Scholarship Fund for women’s athletics at Fieldcrest High School.

Judy was born May 14, 1956 in Streator, IL to Joseph “Bud” and Vernalee M. “Susie” (Norton) McNamara.
Surviving are her mother, Susie, of Minonk; her sisters, Susan McNamara, Bedford, TX, Mary Joette Koziol, East Greenwich, RI, Connie (Curtis) Ketchmark, Minonk; two nieces, Katie (Marcus) Dittmer, Beth (Christopher) Brosnahan. Her father preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Minonk.

Judy graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School and Illinois State University. She played on ISU’s softball and basketball teams and played semi-professional softball for many years. After graduation she started teaching at Minonk-Dana-Rutland, now Fieldcrest High School. She was there from 1978 to 2011. After retirement she still coached girl’s golf and drove a school bus for Fieldcrest. Judy also refereed basketball for many years.
She was a member of the ISU Alumni Association, Tall Oaks Country Club and bowled on the Scatter Pins Tuesday Ladies League, Minonk.

Sharon Lindley

Sharon J. Lindley, 81, of Minonk, IL passed away at 9:40 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Minonk with Rev. Kenneth L. Harris officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Minonk United Methodist Church.

Sharon was born September 15, 1936 in La Crosse, WI the daughter of H.E. and Vada Yeoman Deyo.
She married Kenneth D. Lindley on August 28, 1954 in La Crosse, WI. He survives along with six children
Zoe Small of Wadsworth, OH, Jeffery (Cheryl) Lindley of Phelan, CA, Kevin Lindley of Minonk, Renee (John) Harris of Mattoon, Denise (Mike) Robinson of Akron, OH, and Neal (Shannon) Lindley of Vallejo, CA; two sisters Dixie Fewell and Lorna (David) Schildman both of La Crosse, WI. Twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Michael, one son-in-law Ricky Small, and one brother-in-law Carl Fewell.
Sharon was a member of the Minonk United Methodist Church. She had worked at Heritage Health in El Paso for 20 years retiring in 2001. Sharon was a loving wife, mom, sister, grandma, and great-grandma who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Ellen Prakel

I. Ellen (Backlund) Prakel, 65 of Minonk passed away at 3:26 AM Saturday, October 7, 2017 at her residence.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, October 12, 2017 at South Haven Community Center, Minonk. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Ellen was born January 3, 1952 in Bloomington, a daughter of Charles M. Sr. and Betty J. Terven Backlund. She married Guy Groves and later married Allen Tyson.

She is survived by her children, Deanna Fields of Roanoke, Carrie (Austin) Luce of Rhinelander, WI and her dog, Sylvia Jewel; and seven grandchildren, Charles, Damon and Tristian Groves, Jacob Tyson, Jeremiah Celis, Jayden Darm and Caleb Luce. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, Charles “Mike” Backlund Jr. of Heyworth, Dennis (Julie) Backlund of Bloomington, Connie (Larry) Hunt of Rapidan, VA, Brenda Hany and Teresa (Jeff Alexander) Backlund both of Lexington, and Randy (Pat) Backlund.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sharon Terven; and a son, Lance Edward Groves.

Ellen worked in nursing homes as an LPN. She enjoyed her career and helping comfort others at the toughest times in their lives. She also enjoyed bowling and playing Yahtzee.

Raymond Oncken

Raymond Oncken of Minonk passed away, with his family at his side, at 10:25 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017, at The Waterford Bridle Brook Assisted Living Center in Mahomet, Illinois. He was 76 years old.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Minonk, IL, with Father Patrick Greenough, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m., prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the Minonk Ambulance Squad or Minonk Fire Department.

William Cook Sr.

Funeral Date: Sunday, June 18, 2017

William M. Cook, Sr., 67, of Toluca, passed away Wednesday June 14, 2 017, 6:45 pm at Aperion Care, Toluca.
William was born January 1, 1950 in Tyronza, Arkansas to Louis and Ann (Peters) Cook. He married Wanda Brewer on September 8, 1990 in Toluca, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Ann Cook, of Toluca, his son William Cook, Jr. of Toluca and a step daughter, Cora Clevenger, of Seneca, two grandchildren and one sister, Sue (Rich) Henry, of Toluca.
He was preceded in death by his father, a son, William Robert “Billie Bob” Cook and a brother, Lonny Matthew Cook.
Bill was employed at the Toluca Garment Factory. He was a member of the Antioch Christian Church.
Cremation rites were accorded. A celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the family of William Cook or to the American Heart Association.

John Konwinski

John James Konwinski, 88, of Minonk, passed away Sunday June 4, 2017, 12:18 am at Evenglow Inn, Pontiac.

Visitation will be Friday June 9, 2017, from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am. The Rev. Joy Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Minonk TWP Cemetery, where full military rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to Evenglow Inn, Pontiac.

John was born April 17, 1929 in Peoria, IL to William A. and Anna M. (Gollon) Konwinski. He married Wilma Ruth Robertson on November 2, 1951 in Bloomington, IL. She preceded him in death on October 28, 1999.

Surviving are his children, Stephen T. (Nancy) Konwinski, of El Paso, Timothy (Debra) Konwinski, of New London, WI, Lisa (Randy) Proffitt, of Dale, TX, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one brother Stanley Konwinski, of Ottawa.

His daughter, Janice Konwinski, sisters, Mary Ann Stokowski and Francis O’Connor and a grandson, Brian Konwinski, preceded him in death

John had retired as a machinist from Caterpillar Tractor Company, East Peoria. After his retirement he continued to work as a driver for Green Tree Pharmacy. He was very skilled at many things. He was able to fix most anything, and was a handyman who did jobs for people in his off time and retirement.

John had served his country in the United State Army during the Korean conflict.

Michael McNamara

Michael M. ”Spyder” McNamara, 63, of Minonk, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday April 19, 2017.

He was born in Minonk to Raymond and Kathryn Davis McNamara. He married Regenna Lindberg on October 26, 1987 in Lincoln County, Missouri.1953

Michael is survived by his wife, Regenna of 30 years; a daughter, Kathryn (Daniel) Knight of Toluca; and his first grandchild to be born in August. Also surviving are his siblings; Anne McNamara of Chicago, Kathy McNamara of Washington, Mark (Julie) McNamara of Minonk, Ray (Deb) McNamara of Southlake, TX, Steve McNamara of Minonk, and his step-mother, Mary Knoll McNamara of Minonk. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mike loved his family and was extremely proud of his wife and daughter. He retired from Caterpillar in 2003 after 30 years. He was the most loving, caring man and although life gave him multiple hardships you could never tell with his positive outlook on life.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 8:30 to 10:30 am at Calvert – Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 10:30 at the memorial home with Rev. Dana Jumper officiating. Burial will be in Minonk Twp Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lucille Gunther

Lucille Marie Gunther, 93, of Minonk, passed away Friday March 31, 2017, 1:35 pm at Heritage Health, Minonk.
Visitation will be Tuesday April 4, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Calvert –Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11:00 am at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Minonk, with an hour prior visitation. The Rev. Ed Sinclair will officiate. Burial will follow at Minonk Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ or to Heritage Health, Minonk.
Lucille was born February 10, 1942 in rural Minonk to Heindrich Lubbe and Dena A. (Feken) Harms.
She married Nelson H. Gunther on April 27, 1963 in Minonk. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2002. Surviving are two daughters, Joy (Dan) McDowell, of La Grange and Kris (Jeff) Ellingson, of Minonk. Three grandchildren, Bridget and Brinn Mc Dowell and Trey Ellingston. Her parents, one brother, Arthur and a sister, Ermyle Walters, preceded her in death.
Lucille was a school teacher in the Minonk area for over 38 years. She started teaching in a one room school house and then at the Minonk Grade School.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed to bake, sew and crochet. She also help with the food pantry.

Eileen Bane

Eileen Fern Bane, 80 of Minonk passed away at 10:15 PM Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Heritage Health in Minonk.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service will follow in Dana Cemetery, Dana. Calvert – Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk is assisting the family with arrangements.

Eileen was born April 5, 1936 in Rockford, the daughter of Theron and Creola Mae Bradshaw Barnard. She married John V. Bane Sr. on October 13, 1957 in Dana. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1996.

Surviving are her children, John V. (Darlene) Bane Jr. of Dana, Lorie (Jeff) Keller of Minonk, James (Nancy Leonard) Bane of Manville. and Linda (Anthony) Booth of Toluca; grandchildren, Healy (Justin) Immel, Brittany (Tony) Fiorentini, John C. (Stephanie) Bane, Jacob (Caitlyn) Bane, Brandon (Kim Janssen) Swartz, Courtney (Russell) Callahan, Josh Keller, Zach Keller, Jessica Bane, Nathan Leonard, Anthony Cook, Abby Cook, Colby Booth, and Camren Booth; as well as 4 great grandchildren, Dexton Immel, Logan Bane, Lily Cook and Liam Cook.

Also surviving are 6 brothers, Dick, Ronnie, David, Louis, Dale and Gary; 3 sisters, Phyllis Bohm, Susan Scott and Carol Tucker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John V. Sr.; 3 brothers, Clayton, Lyle and Mike; and a sister Neva.

Eileen was a member of the Minonk United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Royal Neighbors of America, and was an assistant leader of the Flanagan Ever-ready 4-H Club.

She was a farmer’s wife and loved helping out on the farm whenever she could, including this past fall, hauling in grain. She was an avid Fieldcrest Sports fan and enjoyed watching her grandkids in their various sports. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Eileen was a loving mom, grandma (MeMe) and great grandma (GG) and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Our family would like to extend all our gratitude and appreciation to St. James Hospital staff, Pontiac and Heritage Health staff, Minonk for their amazing love and care they provided during this difficult time.

Burnette Carls

Burnette A. Carls, 94 of Minonk passed away at 2:02 PM Monday, March 20, 2017 at OSF St. James John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.

There will be a private family service 10:30 AM Friday at Calvert – Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, with Rev. Ed Sinclair officiating. Burial will follow in Minonk TWP Cemetery, Minonk. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Minonk, Minonk Food Pantry or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 525 W. Monroe St., Suite 1510, Chicago, IL 60661.

Burnette was born November 23, 1922 in Rural Dana, the daughter of Howard and Maggie Brantz Marshall. She married Glen L. Carls on July 24, 1971 in Minonk. He survives.

Also surviving are nephews, Ronald Marshall of Flanagan and Dan (Jennie) Marshall of Minonk; nieces, Bonnie Martin of Flanagan, Ladonna Marshall of Flanagan and Jayme (Arnold) Klapperich of St. Petersburg, FL; and dear friends, Carla (Bill) Williams of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Paul Marshall and Dale Marshall.

Burnette was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Minonk.

She owned and operated Chicago Butcher’s Red Fox in Minonk with her husband, Glen until they retired in 1991. She cherished her dogs, GiGi and the late Ginger. She also loved her horses, Flash, King and Queen.
