Garth T. Taylor

Garth T. Taylor, 93, of Saybrook, Illinois, passed away at 9:28 P.M., Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, Illinois.

His funeral will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook, Illinois, with Pastor Wayne Giermann officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, Illinois, with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook, Illinois or David Humphrey Daniel American Legion Post 427, Saybrook, Illinois.

Garth was born February 24, 1924, in Saybrook, Illinois, a son of William V. & Hazel Holt Taylor. He married Myra LaTeer on February 17, 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas. She passed away January 24, 2017.

He is survived by his son, Lyndall Taylor of Saybrook, Illinois; daughter, Sidney Ann (Larry) Schaefer of Saybrook, Illinois; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; brother, Nile Taylor of Saybrook, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Garth owned and operated Taylor Earth Moving, Saybrook, Illinois. He also had worked for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. Garth was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook, Illinois, David Humphrey Daniel American Legion Post 427, Saybrook, Illinois and  Milton Hill VFW Post 2029, Saybrook, Illinois.

Vernon H. Jacobs

Vernon H. Jacobs, 102, of Arrowsmith, Illinois, passed away at 12:45 A.M., Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Gibson City Annex.

His visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook, Illinois. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 A.M. in Union Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Ridgeview High School FFA.
Vernon was born January 9, 1915, in Arrowsmith, Illinois, to Howard V. and Bernice Lemons Jacobs. He married Doris Hensley on September 30, 1935 in Waukegan, Illinois. She passed away September 29, 2006.
He is survived by one son, Gary (JoAnne) Jacobs, Ellsworth, Illinois; two daughters, Janet Butler, Arrowsmith, Illinois and Jean (Wally) Ward, Hudson, Illinois; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; son-in-law, Larry Butler; and an infant grandson, Steven Butler.
Vernon farmed all his life in Arrowsmith, officially retiring in 1978. His life was the farm and his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

Alma L. Hassebrock

Alma L. Hassebrock, 99, of Saybrook, Illinois, passed away at 10:55 A.M., Friday, August 25, 2017 at OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac, Illinois.

Her visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook, Illinois. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Jeffrey McPike officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Osman.

Alma was born on January 3, 1918 in Foosland, Illinois, a daughter of Christopher and Hermine ‟Minnie” Beetzel Warsaw. She married Herman J. Hassebrock on October 12, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois. He passed away on March 16, 1995.

She is survived by her children, Barry R. (Jana) Hassebrock of Bunker Hill, Illinois and Marla D. Jones of Saybrook, Illinois, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers; one sister; and son-in-law, Ed Jones.

Alma was a retired beautician. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Osman and the Ladies Aid of the church.
